The History of the London Scottish Veterans'
London Scottish Veterans’ Section was inaugurated in 1979, by past Captain Ben Musk now the Club’s Honorary Captain. He was assisted by Lenny Swift.
A league was set up by Pat Bowman, a Wimbledon Common Conservator and member of Roehampton Golf Club. The league of six was made up of London Scottish,
Wimbledon Common, Royal Wimbledon, Roehampton, Royal-Mid Surrey, and Coombe Wood Golf Clubs, Richmond joining in 1980.
Later Wimbledon Park joined in 1984 and finally Surbiton in 1988. These nine clubs make a convenient number, giving four home matches and four away matches each year - one year at home and the next year away against
each of the other clubs.
Don Twelftree who retired in 1980, took over the running of the section from Ben and continued to run this section for three years.
At this time it was decided to appoint a Veterans’ Captain to lead the team in its matches. This honour was given to Ben Musk. Pat Partlington was appointed as Treasurer to aid Don Twelftree and other committee members were also appointed.
The committee felt that more matches were needed, and other local Golf Clubs were approached. These included Epsom G.C., Thames Ditton and Esher G.C.
In addition Home Park G.C. and Mitcham G.C. each agreed to play London Scottish in friendlies played on a home and away basis, later Strawberry
Hill was included in this fixture list. A monthly stableford competition was set up and also an annual knock-out cup.
